This is the oldest photo in our Kachelriess/Cocklereece/Reece Family Photo archives!
Henry was the youngest son of Daniel Kachelriess/ Cocklereece/ Reece and Philipena "Phebe" Isley, making Henry the
great-grandson of our NC progenitors, Michael Kachelriess and wife Rebekah. Henry (baptised Heinrich Kachelriess) and Mary
Reece moved from Guilford Co, North Carolina to Spiceland, Henry Co, Indiana in 1868, where they lived the balance of their lives.
Local newspapers recorded Henry's death in August 1897:
The New Castle Courier

A "Tea Party" at the Brockway home just outside Roseburg Oregon, circa 1890-1900
This is a photo of one of our west-coast Cocklereese relatives!
Mary Francis (Cocklereese, Drew) Brockway is seated fourth from the left. The young lady standing behind her ( with the glasses) is
her youngest daughter, Eva Brockway. Mary was the oldest daughter of Walter Nathaniel Cocklereese and Rhoda Bonebrake.
Nathaniel was the youngest son of Johannes Kachleriess/Cocklereese/Cocklereas and Susannah Morgin/Markert, making Mary the
great-granddaughter of our NC progenitor, Michael Kachelriess.
Family lore says that in 1856, Mary's family and a group of German Baptist Brethren called the "Dunkards" formed their own Wagon
Train, and headed west on the Oregon Trail from their home in Iowa. One of Mary's sisters (Susan, probably) was snatched by an
Indian! She fought back so hard, and made so much noise, that help was on its way, and the Indian had to let her go!
The Wagon Train ended up in Roseburg, Oregon. Mary subsequently married Robert Drew, a Dunkard Preacher/brick mason, who
died of pneumonia at age 51. They lived on the north side of Roseburg in an area known as "Mud Holler". Mary became Beman B.
Brockway's housekeeper after the death of his wife. About 1883, she married Mr. Brockway, a few years after Robert Drew died in
1880.

Samuel Henry Reese (1853-1930)
Louise Reece Simmons recalls that her grandfather "Henry, " a farmer, was a tall thin
man, with red hair and blue eyes. We know his mother, Polly Bell, was of Irish ancestry, so
great grandpa Reese may have gotten those genes from his Mom! Henry married Mary
Isabelle Story.
Ida Frances Ruth Reece Sherwood (1877-1968)
The oldest of 13 children, Ida Ruth was known to her family as "Fannie. " During the 1950s she

away -- so they visited their great "Aunt Fannie" often!) Fannie married Charles Green
Sherwood.
Read the Dec 1967 Greensboro Record article about "Aunt Fanny"!
